Thanks to the keenness of the local resident who was collecting firewood in the forest, freshly dug earth was noticed, which turned out to be the burial of the victims killed by the Cheka (The All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution, Speculation, and Sabotage). In July 1941, the remains of 11 people were excavated in two grave pits.  The White Cross was placed at the memorial site.
